A poet, to me, is not someone famous.
Not someone printed in textbooks.
Not someone we study for exams.
A poet is someone who feels too much and cannot keep it inside.
Sometimes I don’t even know big literary figures. I don’t sit and analyze complicated verses. But I know this when the moon rises, I notice. When my mother feeds me with her hands, I feel something sacred. When confusion sits in my chest, I want to turn it into words instead of letting it drown me.
That is poetry.
A poet doesn’t need to know every great name from history. A poet needs honesty. A poet needs observation. A poet needs courage.
I think poets are old souls. They value tradition the smell of home-cooked food, the stories elders tell, the quiet devotion of folded hands. But they are also forward-looking. They ask questions. They challenge silence. They dream bigger than their surroundings.
Poetry is not about showing off vocabulary. It is about truth.
Sometimes it is about chai in the evening.
Sometimes it is about the moon listening to your secrets.
Sometimes it is about loving deeply but choosing dignity.
A poet is someone who refuses to become numb.
And let me say something strongly you do not need permission to be one. You don’t need to quote anyone. You don’t need to compare yourself.
If words come to you when you are alone…
If emotions turn into sentences in your mind…
If silence feels like it is speaking…
Then that is enough.
Poetry is not about knowing poets.
It is about knowing yourself. 🌙
